Birkman International on HR Measurements and Metrics

Here's the beef: http://www.birkman.com/news/whitePapers.php#

So, I work for Starr Tincup, THE marketing firm in the human capital space. I may have said that already, but it becomes terrifically important here. Our clients are on the heading edge in their particular verticals because they have transitioned from creating white papers and articles that are about them looking at their belly buttons, trying to sell stuff, to white papers that combine primary and secondary research to explore trends and upcoming trends in the space. in an effort to help you remain on that edge and really join the conversation about the human capital space at a strategic level, I am going to regularly review those white papers here.

Birkman International,  a Texas company with more than 50 years experience in personality assessments and team building, recently released the white paper, "HR Measurements and Metrics". Here are the high points:

  • HR executives want a seat at the executive table, but they have yet to deliver meaningful data tied to bottom line profits and business initiatives that executives need and value
  • Those measurements that could earn them that seat (human capital ROI, human capital value add, revenue factor, training investment factor, training ROI and yield ratio are only used in less than 20 percent of organizations
  • Common errors in designing HR metrics--developing and implementing in a vacuum and developing more than can be maintained
  • THROUGH A LACK OF TECHNOLOGICAL UTILIZATION, HR professionals are barring themselves from a seat at the table and a truly strategic interaction with the executive board

For more, visit Birkman and check out their white paper. In a nutshell, until HR changes their focus from paying paychecks to the organization's bottom line and competitive positioning, they will not be seen as strategic. In order to do that, they need a team or a software application that executes on the tactical and administrative functions of HR flawlessly.

I found your first paragraph of particular interest. I agree, the invention of the white paper could very well get college students in trouble when preparing what they believe to be a well researched paper.
